Hello my lovely perfume lovers! I have amassed a tiny Haus of Gloi collection including my new custom blend, that I thought would be fun to review for you. It is a mixture of Spring and Winter Seasonal perfumes. For Part 1, I’ll do the Spring perfumes just in case you were holding out to read some reviews prior to your purchase.
I’ve been super happy lately with Haus of Gloi releases they seem to be stocking more things initially and doing 1-2 restocks based on demand. They haven’t been as much of a feeding frenzy lately that you would get cart-lifted while heading to check out. I hate having to rush onto a website right at a released and virtually “fight” people for perfume, because as much as I love it, perfume that is; it just isn’t necessary to get crazy about. I do love smelling pretty all the time and perfume is very calming to me.
I’ll be reviewing, First Blush, Dank Chocolate, Who Needs Love and Super Freak. Part 2 will include His Sweater, Gimme Mah Coffee, Queen Mother 2015 and a review of my Custom Blend.
Super Freak: Rich vanilla, heady incense and a trace of red wine
If it wasn’t obvious by the note description, if you do not like incense this is not for you, it is immediately the first thing that you smell in bottle. It is rich, in your face, headshop wonderful incense. Super Freak is if all your witchy friends came over and you were burning stick after stick of incense, while drinking boatloads of a rich sweet red wine, cackling over cheesy movies and tarot cards. While it is wet on my skin the slightly tart red wine comes out and tingles my nose. It smells like something familiar but I can’t quite place it. Once it dries down it really mellows out. The incense is still there but it isn’t IN YOUR FACE like it felt like concentrated in bottle. The vanilla mingles in and it makes this really pleasant scent.
If you’re an incense lover, this is for you no questions asked.
Dank Chocolate: Bitter chocolate, blood orange, patchouli, labdanum, a dark ruddy amber and benzoin
So I’ll be the first to admit that I was motivated to buy this perfume because of the name. I usually don’t LOVE just chocolate perfumes, I find them boring, I was interested by this one because of the blood orange and the amber & patchouli notes. I ended up being pleasantly surprised and it immediately reminded me of something in bottle. Have you ever gone to the grocery store and got one of those chocolate oranges? They look exactly like a orange and you’d tap them on top and they’d break apart into little “orange” slices. This smells like those taste. On my skin, it is very warm, rich, sweet, and chocolatey. I wish the other notes stood out more than chocolate, which seems stupid because it is called Dank Chocolate, but eh. It gets very ambery on my skin. That warm, engulfing, comfortable feeling. Maybe, I’ll grow to like this more. It certainly has a lot I do like about it.
If you like deep, warm, chocolate with hints of patchouli and a dark fruitiness this is for you.
First Blush: Tahitian vanilla bean, white tea, lavender and peach
First Blush is one of the ones I wasn’t sure about at first because of the lavender note. I didn’t initially purchase it but as reviews came in I decided I wanted to give it a shot. I had been reading that this year’s variation has more Peach, which is a huge plus for me. I love peach, I want to cover myself in peach perfume every day, and I’ll never get tired of it. Lavender I like but I find it tends to overwhelm things and takes me to like bath time or spa time which I don’t always want from my perfume.
In bottle, you get light lavender and the tingling sour but sweet peach. It is light and aromatic from the white tea and kind of sweet from the vanilla bean. It reminds me of the peach pie that someone put a little lavender into. Wet on my skin it is definitely more lavender than peach but it isn’t that overwhelming sort of lavender. I feel like this would make a beautiful hair oil or sugar scrub.
On my skin, it does exactly what I was afraid of. It turns into all lavender and immediately isn’t for me. I can’t win them all. I guess I’m destashing this one.
If you love lavender, sweet peach, slightly sweet vanilla and tea, this is for you.
Who Needs Love: A mahogany box filled with chocolaty orbs, coated in crystallized coffee, filled with a pomegranate and raspberry filling
Okay, so I’m going to sound like a repeating Parrot here, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE coffee. I always love coffee. I will try 100% everything that has coffee in it. HoG also makes 2 of my favorite coffee blends and they just added a 3rd to that list.
Who Needs Love is freakin stupendous. This smells like amazing expensive truffles or like deep espresso with raspberry creamer. In bottle, it is rich, chocolaty coffee, with sweet juicy raspberries. On my skin, it is all coffee while it is still drying down. It lightens down, with some rich mahogany wood. I love mahogany, it is my favorite wood smell.
Completely dried down it is coffee, coffee, coffee. The fruity pomegranate and raspberry is lightly there but the coffee completely takes over on my skin. YMMV of course. It’s been about 15 minutes I applied it to my skin and the coffee has blended with the mahogany and the mahogany is truly shining through.
If you like lightly woody, warm, coffee with little hints of rich fruit, this is for you.
All of these perfumes are still available in 5ml bottles as well as samples and it in other products as well.
