Todays review is going to be for Arcana’s Prynne Collection perfumes that I picked up recently. I was originally only planning on getting Demimondaine, because hello Coffee scent, but Julie the owner/creator of Arcana posted on their Facebook page that if you bought any 3 perfumes from their Ebay shop they would throw in a bottle of 3 Finger Ballet a drier reimagining of their very very popular 2 Finger Ballet, which was enough to convince me. 2 Finger Ballet is one of my absolute favorite perfumes ever and I wear it so often that I knew the reimagined version would be perfect for when I inevitably run out of the original.
Before I get into my reviews here is where you can buy Arcana perfumes, their Ebay store, Femme Fatale in Australia, Pretty Indulgent in Canada, or The Rhinestone Housewife in the US. As of this post the Arcana eBay store is closed while they fill orders and the promotion for the 3 Finger Ballet perfume is over.
The Prynne Collection is an ode to Tramps, Trollops, and Floozy’s everywhere!
It hath evermore been the notorious badge of prostituted Strumpets and the lewdest Harlots, to ramble abroad to Plays, to Playhouses; whither no honest, chaste or sober Girls or Women, but only branded Whores and infamous Adulteresses, did usually resort in ancient times. –William Prynne, Militant Puritan
Demimondaine Sugary milk, Venezuelan coffee CO2 extract, espresso, and rich gateau
I know, I know I say this every time but I’m obsessed with coffee scents. This honestly rivals Haus of Gloi’s Gimme Moar Coffee for pure kick you in the face espresso. It is strong, sweet, sugary coffee. It reminds me of the cuban coffee I would get with my parents as a young teen at my favorite restaurant in South Florida. It finishes with a rich bitter dark chocolate cake.
Fancy Boy A slice of warm bread smothered in golden honey, white chocolate, almond bits, and rich vanilla
So I worked for years at the JCC in Maitland while I was in college and every Friday they would have Challah bread, I’d always take a loaf home with me and have it as a snack with some local honey. This reminds me of that. It isn’t exactly the same bread wise but it is sweet, a little yeasty but so much glorious sweet oozy honey. On my skin I get little hints of almond and vanilla. It reminds me of the below picture. My mouth is watering thinking of this sweet treat. (It might also be because I’ve cut out almost all bread and sweets from my diet and I’m a huge sweet freak, at least I have my perfume.) This scent is strong, it lasts for hours, and comes wafting off my body in pretty consistent waves for most of the day.
3 Finger Ballet A delicate blend of French vanilla creme, white amber, sugared vanilla beans, caramel, and the smallest dab of opium
3 Finger Ballet isn’t a huge difference between its previous incarnation. It is sugary vanilla cream oozing out of a vanilla bean cake. I imagine that this one would be amazing layered with something. Vanilla Craves Bread or maybe Pumpkin Spice Latte from Solstice Scents. It had an interesting twist the the opium that takes just that slight edge off the super sweetness. While sweet it is not overwhelming.
I’m definitely glad that I was able to get this LE bottle.
I was asked by my friend Lara to update this with a direct comparison to 2 Finger Ballet. 2FB to me is sweeter. My bottle is aged so it reads as a gooey caramel vanilla cake. I get no opium from 2FB at all. It is pure sweet in your face cake. The image below is the perfect descriptor for Two Finger Ballet. It makes me smell like I just rubbed myself in caramel and baked a cake.
Trollop Vintage patchouli, resinous amber, boozy apple rum, and vodka
Trollop is so boozy. Do you like Patchouli? Do you like in your face Apple Booze? If so, get this bottle ASAP. It is dark, resinous and boozy. The hint of vodka really seems to ground out the rest of the notes which is wonderful. It is so warm and engulfing. I feel like this is the perfect perfume for the Haight Ashbury in the city. The young grifter women laying around the edge of golden gate park. I’d say this could very easily be a unisex scent. As it dries the apple peaks out and tickles your nose with its slightly tart scent. I really love this one, other than Demimondaine I’d say this is my favorite from this collection. It is just so strong and engulfing.
Floozy Silky opium smoked with boozy amber, dark vanilla, and sandalwood
It is so smokey. This smells so high-end and is very uni-sex. I imagine something like this is a fancy ornate bottle and costing two to three times what I paid for it. The sandalwood and smoke are immediately in your nose. The smoked opium is right at the forefront and it dries down to a beautiful rich sandalwood with a sweet grounding and balancing vanilla. I get a fresh scraped vanilla bean vanilla but it isn’t very foody. Amber is warm and comforting. It reminds me of my Dad’s Cologne even though the notes aren’t at all similar.
Have you tried these? Did you like them? Tell me! Follow my Instagram posts for more little nuances into the blends and more photos. I’ll have two other reviews this week so keep a look out.
