Day 2 of my 30 scents in 30 days series is Goldenscale from Darling Clandestine one of my favorite companies. Evonne from DC constantly puts out new interesting blends and products. Including teas, solid perfumes, balms, hair perfumes, sprays for your hair, tshirts, and even Eggs! As you can tell, I’m a fan.
Goldenscale was originally released as a cute little mini bottle with a handmade clay piece attached to the normal cap. It was so darling but I was afraid that I’d use all of it up so when Evonne released a larger bottle I scooped it up. I haven’t gotten to wear or try it out more than a few times but not with the scrutiny I normally do with my reviews. So, enough blabbing, lets get smelling.
Notes: A pure absolute of green cognac grapes, drizzled with caramel, boozed with deep-toasted vanilla, tossed with crushed clove, spritzed with crisp apple juice, and then enweirdened with DarlingClandestine. The notes sound rich and gourmand, and Goldenscale does begin a bit like a vodka-soaked caramel apple, but as it unfolds it’s not quite the foody sweetness you’d expect. It’s fresher, mellower, stranger . . . enweirdeneder.
In the bottle Goldenscale is fruity and sweet. It’s light just so crisp and airy. In bottle you’d honestly have no idea it is a Darling Clandestine perfume because while it smells complex is it almost simple and beautiful, not that her perfumes aren’t beautiful otherwise but it is so different from Inked and so many others I’ve tried from her. It develops this rich caramel sweetness as you continue to smell it in bottle. Out of bottle and wet on my skin it’s rich and deeply sweet while still being green. It’s still quite crisp and fruity. My skin develops a little spice and this green grape sort of scent. Dried down and warmed up the caramel and what I believe is clove or allspice becomes so rich tinged with a boozy vanilla. All vanilla should be boozy by the way, it’s my favorite. It is very mellow for a gourmand and green but not plant green.
It settles out to a fruity caramel the more it wears on my skin. It clings fairly close to my skin but it wafts to my nose occasionally as I do different tasks. I’ve been wearing it for about 4 hours now and it is still pretty strong on scent.
Needless to say I am a huge fan of this and I’m glad my initial impressions from the tiny bottle were correct and buying a larger size was the smart thing for me to do. I would have been disappointed to have missed out.
What will day 3 bring us tomorrow? Stay tuned 😀
