I’ve done a few Darling Clandestine reviews already on this blog and I’m sure I have many more in the future since Evonne makes some of my favorite perfumes. You can find her perfumes in her Etsy shop; where she is currently having a clearance sale on most of her perfumes with a turn around time of 7 days!
Located on a farm in rural Texas, she brings whimsy, sharks, and chickens to the table with her unique and often very interesting perfumes. Evonne doesn’t rely on the description of notes to intrigue you into purchasing her often complicated and complex blends but most of the time a simple description that leaves you thinking, “I wonder what that is going to smell like.” Her blends aren’t for the light of heart and those unwilling to be surprised by the maddening genius that is her perfumes. When buying from Darling Clandestine you can look forwarding to smelling something you know you’ll never have smelt similar to before, beautiful different bottles, creative names and hilarious shark and chicken jokes on your package.
These are two of her newer releases Sweetnaps Meatbeats & Throbsparks from the Jukebox Lava Collection.
Throbsparks
That pulsating reverb like a bellows for a scream. This fragrance begins raw, visceral, walking-away-from-an-explosion-and-not-looking-back molten red—but NOT cinnamon-”spicy”. At all. Not at all. It finishes in a bold, sexy, sophisticated musk.
Before I get into the actual scent review I just wanted to say how much I love the added vegan micas in the perfume. They don’t do anything other than lava around which is SO AWESOME!
Throbsparks is honestly one of the more unique perfumes I’ve smelled. Do you know how some things just smell expensive? Throbsparks smells like it could be in Chanel packaging in Sephora. It is unadulteratedly sexy and gorgeous. In bottle it’s just this spicy & musky rawness. It has the air of a man’s cologne without being masculine. On my skin it almost feels a little more green but still spicy. It isn’t like a clove or cinnamon type of spice earlier. Once warmed up and soaked into my skin it is a little woodsy but still this just brilliant you need to smell it cologne scent. It is almost like you’re sitting in this library surrounded by antique books, sitting in this plush big leather chair while smoking a big fat cigar and nursing a hot cup of rich black coffee. It has this overall gorgeous muskiness.
It is hard to review this perfume because I feel like it is so different from the normal perfumes where I can distinguish individual notes.
Throbsparks has high sillage for me but doesn’t ever become cloying and lasts nearly all day. You only need a little bit! This baby is strong.
11/10 100% would buy a vat.
Sweetnaps Meatbeats
In honor of that tragically cute, endearingly obnoxious ring tailed cat who sleeps in the roof of my chicken pen. This fragrance is a melange of malted milkshake, brambly mesquite branches, hackberry bark, and furry musk.
In bottle Sweetnaps is a clove & cinnamon milkshake. It reminds me of horchata! My skin brings out this gorgeous musky quality, a little musky and still wonderfully weirdly sweet. While warmed up on my skin it’s milky, rich and musky. It is a warm comforting blanket like scent that just brings a smile to your face.
Sweetnaps is a fairly simple perfume and to me doesn’t have any hidden secrets. It is a horchata milkshake, served with a big’ol pile of pancakes with a kitty cuddling in your lap.
Sweetnaps is medium sillage for me and not cloying at all. It lasts 6 hours on my skin before I find it disappears at least to where I cannot smell it.
As I’m sure you can tell I was a BIG fan of these two perfumes. If you’ve tried them let me know!
I did pay for these with my own money and there are no affiliate links. 😀
Milk notes normally go pretty sour on me. Does the same go for you? Sweetnaps sounds amazing and I’d love for it to be an exception for my skin chemistry.
I didn’t find that sweetnaps did at all! Normally, milk goes sour on me as well.
Neither of these worked on my skin 🙁
It’s crazy how skin chemistry works!! It smelled super lovely in the bottle, and super not lovely on me.
Might have to pick up a bottle of Throbsparks now… hmm
