I figured it was about time I did a scrub round-up post as an addict of Sugar Scrubs. I don’t like regular bar soap and how it always leaves this weird rubbery feeling on my skin, so to exfoliate, moisturize and wash my skin in the shower I prefer either whipped sugar scrubs or straight-up sugar scrubs. So I gathered together some of my either new or currently using scrubs and put them to the test, for each scrub I’m going to go over:
- Consistency
- Scent Level
- Scrubability
- Lather
Milk Tea 2 oz for $12.00
Consistency: Whipped Sugar Scrub with a more soapy texture with a fine grain sugar. It is fairly thick and dense, kind of like a thicker raw cake batter. A little sticky, but STICKY STICKY, I hope that makes sense. It is a really pleasant texture, it is like the denser version of the Southern comforts cake batter scrubs.
Scent Level
This smells fantastic, you open the jar and it is so strong and when you use the scrub it leaves behind a really pleasant scent.
- Scent: Fresh Pineapple slices in fizzy pear champagne and strawberry soda
Scrub/Moisture: As I mentioned earlier, it does have a fine grain sugar so it is a lightly scrubby in texture and it feels like it lightly moisturizes.
Lather: This lathers so nicely, I feel like this would be so perfect for shaving your legs.
Cosmic Cleanse Scentsations $13.00
Consistency: You can tell coconut oil is a big part of this scrub, it is a oily & super sugary consistency. This is a traditional sugar scrub, not a whipped sugar scrub. I find that this scrub works better with warm water so the coconut oil really absorbs into your skin.
Scent Level
- Scent: Pomegranate, Fizz & Fruit Loop.
Scrub/Moisture: very, very scrubby, but not too rough.
Lather: Not at all! Which I love.
Epically Epic Soaps $10.00 8oz
Consistency: Very similar to Cosmic Cleanse. It is a more oily based sugar scrub versus a whipped soap. It is a bit thicker than the Cosmic Cleanse and Villainess Soaps. Works better with hotter water.
Scent Level
- Scent: smoky blackberry & jasmine tea
Scrubability: Very very very scruby.
Lather: Doesn’t really lather.
Candy Panda – 12$ net weight 10.6oz
Consistency: It has a more sugar to soap ratio which lathers really well and is nicely moisturizing.
Scent Level: A decent amount of smell, each one of these is so different though. I’ve tried around 4 scents now with a few others I’m working through after this one. Most of these have a medium-high scent throw after the fact. Nicely moisturizing.
- Scent: orange creamsicle + blonde moment (iced champagne + rich raspberry and cranberry)
Scrubability: Nicely scrubby, it is good for those days you don’t REALLY want to go to town on your skin.
Lather: Lathers well but not too too much.
Bento Wax Co $12.50 10oz
Consistency Similar to Epically Epic in the thickness of the scrub, very dense with sugar. Bento is a little oily but not OILY. You can roll what you pick up into a solid ball. Very scrubby and moisturizing. I really like the way the palm oil makes it feel on my skin.
Scent Level Heavily Scented, I adore Rainbow Roll as well. I’d honestly order another 5 of these.
- Scent: Strawberry, raspberry, & guava
Scrubability Very densely packed with sugar and scrubbiness.
Lather No lather.
The Bathing Garden $9.00 for 8oz
Consistency Has a drier feeling that most of the other scrubs, but not a total dry scrub like the Clover & Bee scrub I’ve reviewed in the past. Reminds me a little bit of the Bento Scrubs.
Scent Level Very Strong scent! I think TBG makes one of my favorite scrubs, I do have to avoid using these on my tattoos because they really bring out the impurities in my skin.
- Scent: I’m not sure the scent of this, it was a freebie with a wax order around Christmas time, a little minty.
Scrubability scrubbier than I expect given how well it lathers.
Lather really great lather!
Villainess $11.50 7oz
Consistency More sugar based with oil, so very moisturizing. One of my favorites to use in the winter time or when my skin is especially dry.
Scent Level I find this one at least to be lightly scented.
- Scent: A deep, dark forest in ancient Norse legends where enormous wolves were bred by lady trolls. Fir absolute, black pine needles, warm labdanum absolute, spicy cardamom, and one drop of sweet heliotrope.
Scrubability very very scrubby.
Lather No Lather
Southern Comforts $16.00 9oz
Consistency More like a wet cake batter like consistency. Has a thicker type of sugar crystals. It is the looser of all the scrubs. The Milk Tea scrub feels slightly similar, but at the same time different.
Scent Level Very heavily scented.
- Scent: Fresh apricot jam, osmanthus flowers, white chocolate, coffee, whipped cream, toasted bread, french vanilla, wood, amber.
Scrubability I don’t find these super scrubby, they are more soapy which is great to use for leg shaving.
Lather Great lather! I do find this to be a bit more on the soap side than scrub. The sugar crystals are just a nice bonus.
Sixteen92 4oz $4 (Trial Size)
Consistency Very dense with sugar. I find this dry despite the moisturizing oils. Similar to Sugar & Spite.
Scent Level Leave behind a strong scent with this particular scent I’m trying.
- Scent: white grapefruit & peach
Scrubability very scrubby! I find this great for my husband when he has dry itchy patches.
Lather No Lather
Sugar + Spite 4oz (came in a box so I don’t have a price)
Consistency This one is a foaming scrub that doesn’t feel like a soap base. It is more drying feeling similar to the The Bathing Garden and Sixteen92.
Scent Level Very Heavily Scented, the coffee reigns supreme.
- Scent: Coffee Scrub
Scrubability Very Scrubby and Moisturizing.
Lather No Later.
Have you tried Fierce and Fancy scrubs yet? They lather nice and are scrubby too!
I haven’t! I’ll add them to my list of people to try 🙂
Niiice! What a great post! I’m now putting Candy Panda on my list to buy. I recommend Alchemic Muse. They have a large crystal scrub that lathers up. It’s my go-to.
You know I don’t think I’ve tried anything from them before! I’ll check it out.
Lovely reviews. I like that you could put into detail the nuances of each brand of scrub.
Thank you!! 🙂
